Moving and Packing Tips
- Pack all your possessions into boxes and or
proper transponerting protection.
- Clear passage way to prevent accidents.
- Lable all boxes and furniture clearly. This
will save you time and confusion.
- Do not pack boxes greater than 50 lbs.
- Disassemble all furniture before mover arrives
- Confirm all costs with mover and sign to it
in writinng
- Go to the bank. Have enough money to
pay the mover.
- Take Inventory
- Photos and home videos, Birth certificates, wills and other
legal documentation
- Jewelry, rare coins and special collections
- Computer diskettes with backups of important files
- Electronic equipment

- Reserve elevator if moving to or from an
apartment
- Start Packing as early as one month before
- Use up food items so that there is less
left to pack and possibly spoil
- Arrange to have school records transferred
to your children's new school
- Call your insurance agent to see what changes
to expect in your policies, ask if moving is covered and arrange for
insurance for your new home
- Call your newspaper courier and set a date
to cancel your subscription
- Contact your utility companies on both ends
of the move to order dates for termination or turn-on
- Contact your bank and/or credit union to
transfer or close accounts. Clear ut safety deposit boxes. Pick up
cash for "on the road" expenses
- Empty, defrost and clean your refrigerator
at least 24 hours before moving day, prepare all appliances for loading.
